Greetings from my Shelter in Place to yours.

For all of you, I hope you are staying safe, panic-free, avoiding the news, laughing at least three times a day and reading. (If you prefer listening, Irish Magic, the audiobook is now free at your local library through Overdrive and Hoopla.)

I have a giveaway of a paperback ARC of Miss Austen which came out today.
(if you go to this link you can read a bit of the story and decide if this book is for you.)

MISS AUSTEN by Gill Hornby is a novel that finally pulls back the curtain on the life of Jane Austen's beloved sister, Cassandra.

In a story that Karen Joy Fowler calls “[a] gift to the world of Austen lovers,” Gill Hornby shines a light on the oft-forgotten Cassandra and introduces readers to a real-life heroine who is as sensible as Elinor Dashwood, as independent as Anne Elliot, and as unforgettable as Elizabeth Bennet.

MISS AUSTEN opens in Kintbury in 1840, where Cassandra Austen is in desperate search of the lost letters of her late sister, Jane. By now an elderly spinster, Cassandra has spent her later years working to safeguard her famous sister’s legacy—and when she finally discovers the trove of Jane’s letters, she must decide whether to release their secrets to the world or commit their memories to the flames.

Each newly discovered missive sets off a flood of memories that force Cassandra to confront not only Jane's past but her own, in all its youthful romance and sobering tragedies. Brilliantly imagined by Hornby, the letters in this novel capture Cassandra's strength, the extraordinary bond between the Austen sisters, and Jane’s voice in all its sparkling wit and intelligence.

MISS AUSTEN is a story that will not only delight Jane Austen fans and offer them a new look at their favorite writer, but it will also speak to readers on more contemporary terms with its vibrant portrait of the independent Cassandra and its tribute to heroines who chart their own paths and write their own happy endings.
Personally, I found the book, charming and very well written.  If you like Jane Austen this books has a lot in it for you to love in both style and content. I knew nothing about Jane Austen's personal life before reading this book.
