Next: Meet multi-published author Stacy Hoff who if offering an eBook copy of  Lawfully Yours.

Stacy doesn't believe in posting personal pictures on the web, so she's come up with a clever avatar. Stacy, please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a wife, mother of two boys (ages 10 and 13), and a full-time attorney. I have been practicing law for two decades, primarily handling contracts. I write novels late into the night. My home-office is perpetually filled with draft manuscripts, a million books I can’t bear to part with, and as many cups of coffee as I can get my hands on. Holy cow! You are Wonder Woman!

I love firsts, so tell me about the moment when a publisher told you they wanted to publish your book.
I was sound asleep early in the morning on January 3rd, 2014My husband, an early riser, was checking work e-mail on an e-mail address he shares with me.  He was the first to see I got a message from the senior editor of Soul Mate Publishing Inc., telling me she was accepting my manuscriptHe burst open the bedroom door, came running in, and handed me the iPhone. It took me a minute to wake up, rub my eyes, and read the e-mail. I was dumbstruck for a little while. When I found myself able to form words again I called my mother. Soul Mate gave me a wonderful way to start a new year.

If it isn’t too nosy. How about the first time you kissed your true love?
I was five years old and had the biggest crush on a boy in my music class. I still remember his name—Andrew. One day he leaned over and gave me a kiss on my cheek and I just about died from joy.  I had no idea he knew I liked him, and even less of a clue that he liked me. That was forty years ago, and I still remember it well. I love that.

What is the most exciting moment, so far, in your writing career?

I’m lucky enough to have had a few highlights. I was just as excited to sell Soul Mate Publishing, Inc., my second and third books as I was the first. My first book being nominated by BTS emag for its 2015 Red Carpet Awards “Rising Star” category was pretty amazing, too.

What is your favorite pastime, other than writing?
I am an artistic person. I went to an arts high school, took painting and sculpture in college, and have been taking figure sketching classes at night for the last couple of years. It was a relief for me to get back to my creative roots. When I’m not writing or drawing, I love to cook and bake.

How do you motivate yourself when inspiration takes a vacation?
I grind through terrible prose, hoping the editing stage it will be less terrible than I think it’s going to be.

Any advice for new writers just starting out?
Join a writers’ group. I could not have gotten published with joining my local chapter of Romance Writers of America (RWA). I agree 100%

What genre or genres do you write?
I have one dark romance I published in a “new adult” anthology. All my other work is contemporary romance, although my “Desire” series has quite a bit of action/adventure.

Tell us about your latest release.
My upcoming release is DESIRE IN THE ARCTIC, the sequel to my first published novel, DESIRE IN THE EVERGLADES (BTS emag 2015 Red Carpet Award Nominee “Rising Star” Category). The book blurb for DESIRE IN THE ARCTIC sums up this action/adventure contemporary romance. ARCTIC is a stand-alone novel. Although readers may enjoy reading DESIRE IN THE EVERGLADES first, it is not necessary.

ARCTIC will be e-released February 3rd, 2016, with print format to follow. EVERGLADES is currently available in both electronic and print formats.

Ana Davis has been given the promotion of the century—from secretary to television producer. But the new job is not without its problems.
The network will do anything for ratings. In the executive’s scramble to come out on top, they reveal Ana’s newest show—one she’s forced to star in herself. She’ll have to survive in the Arctic Circle for twenty-one days. If she wins, she’ll get the prize money she desperately needs. But the stakes are high, she could lose her very life. Good thing she’s been paired with expert survivalist William “Redd” Redding, a mysterious, solitary and very sexy man. Too bad she thinks he doesn’t even want to talk to her.
William “Redd” Redding is a former Special Ops Marine in need of cash to help a cause near and dear to his heart. What he’s not in need of, however, is Ana Davis—his clueless but captivating partner. It’s up to Redd to ensure the two of them survive in the most dangerous, hostile environment of all. But worse than snowstorms, predators, and a scarcity of food is an even greater danger—Ana. Resisting her, when he wants her more than anything, is his hardest challenge yet. How does he go about protecting her when his ultimate goal is to protect his heart?
Book Blurb for DESIRE IN THE EVERGLADES
Stephanie Lang’s successful career as a television producer can’t give her everything she wants out of life. Her personal goals of writing a romance novel and finding true love languish. Emotionally scarred by her fiancĂ©’s affair with her cousin, she doesn’t have the confidence to go after either goal again. At least she has professional confidence to fall back on—she is ready to produce the company’s next hit show. But when her boss reveals what the show is about, a survival documentary starring a sexy, modern version of Crocodile Dundee, Stephanie’s life is turned upside down.
Colin Brandt, billed as “The Evergladiator,” will tackle Florida’s Everglades with nothing more than his bare hands and a knife. Stephanie, instantly attracted to handsome, rugged, enigmatic Colin, worries he will not survive his twelve-day odyssey. If he does, he’ll win a million dollars. If he fails, his beloved family’s farm will go into foreclosure. Can Colin conquer the Everglades? And can he conquer her heart?
What’s your current WIP?
I’m working on a whole bunch of manuscripts right now. Talking about multi-tasking!

And finally, where can we find  you?

Book Blurb for Lawfully Yours
The prestigious Connecticut law firm of Grovas & Cleval has always been rife with office drama and crazy clients. But an office affair between a young associate and a powerful partner—her boss—might be the biggest scandal of all.
Quirky, quiet Sue Linkovitch is Jordan Grant’s newest hire. Barely out of law school and hired on a fluke, she has no idea what she’s gotten herself into. Unfortunately, Jordan isn’t sympathetic to her professional “growing pains.” In fact, he’s downright frosty. The only time he thaws is when he’s around his five-year-old daughter. So why is she so attracted to him?
Jordan Grant sees Sue as bright, bookish, and a terrible temptation. Yet he knows not to get involved with a woman again—he learned this from his divorce. And if that hard-knock lesson wasn’t enough, he’s been falsely accused of sexual harassment in the past. If a colleague even think he’s interested, it will be the death of his career—and hers.

Goodreads Giveaway and and a Christmas poem.

Posted by Susan B James on 3:00:00 AM with 1 comment

Happy season of Hope and Miracles and Good stuff.

I'm doing my first Goodreads Giveaway. 5 paperback copies of Time and Forever. If you haven't read it, please hop on over and enter. https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/167111-time-and-forever
If you have read it, please share the giveaway.

I hope you make some wonderful memories this week.  Here's a Christmas poem for you. Blessings.

 Twas The Night.

                                                  by Susan J Berger

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,

Each creature was reading. Yes, even the mouse.

In a nest made of cotton that used to line pills,

he read Mouseman Saves Christmas and shivered with thrills.

Miss Padpaws turned pages of  Elf off A Shelf

And purred as she read it aloud to herself.

Bad Dog, on the hearth, was devouring a book.

He'd chewed up five chapters and turned them to gook.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

reading books, with the covers pulled over their heads.

Mamá was engrossed in her latest romance.

I nodded o'er Dickens and fell into trance.

Not one of us heard jingle bells on the roof.

No prancing and pawing of each tiny hoof.

Santa slid down the chimney and only Bad Dog,

looked up and woofed softly at the man on the log.

"Good Bad Dog," said Santa, and opened his pack.

He pulled out a bushel of books from his sack.

Picture books, YA, some Midgrades for Simon,

Thrillers, romances and even Neil Gaiman.

Geronimo Stilton, he gave to the mouse.

A copy of Archie, he left for the louse

He patted Miss Padpaws and handed her Cats.

For Bad Dog, a cake book that tasted like Brats

He filled every stocking with poems and prose.

Then ate all the cookies; brushed crumbs from his clothes.

On Prancer! On Dancer!"  Sleigh bells jingled bright.

"Happy Reading to All and to All a Good Night".

Meet Rebecca Neely. Romance with a punch of suspense #Giveaway

Posted by Susan B James on 3:00:00 AM with 6 comments
Thanks for being here, Rebecca. Please tell us a little about yourself.
I wear many hats, including mother, freelance writer, storyteller. problem solver, doer and head bottle washer. I’m a sucker for a happy ending, and I write the kind of stories I love to read—those featuring authentic, edgy and vulnerable characters, smack dab in the middle of action that explodes from page one. My bio also reports that I was raised on a down home blend of Johnny Cash, Jack London, Sherlock Holmes, the Steelers, and all things small town. I feel blessed to have grown up in a close knit, fun loving and artistic family. My mother, a voracious reader and scratch cook, and my father, an entrepreneur, English teacher and lover of literature, taught my brother and I to work hard, aim for the stars, and live life.

I love firsts, so tell me about the moment when a publisher told you they wanted to publish your book.

It was almost like an out of body experience. You work so hard on telling your story, send it out, and somebody you don’t know loves your work so much they want to share it with the world. It was pretty amazing! My teenaged daughter was the first one to know. She couldn’t wait to tell all of her friends. That alone was pretty cool – street cred with my teenager – it doesn’t get much better than that!
No. It doesn't!

Other than your own, who are your favorite (heroes/heroines/writers) in your genre?
I’ve read Nora Roberts for the last fifteen years, and many of her heroes are near and dear to my heart, but perhaps none more than Cameron Quinn from the Chesapeake Bay series. He’s a hothead, sexy as hell, and endears me every time I re-read the book. I love the way he cares for Seth, the little boy who comes to live with them. I'll have to re-read that one. I think I own every Nora Book.
A close second is from an oldie but a goodie, The Eyes of Darkness by Dean Koontz. The hero is Elliott Stryker, a former operative. He’s strong, confident, sexy and intelligent, and he falls hard for the heroine, Tina.

What is the most exciting moment, so far, in your writing career?
I think when I received an email from my editor saying she wanted to buy my Crossing Realms urban fantasy series. This is my first series, and I hadn’t even written the second or third books. I was sitting in a department store, outside of a dressing room, while my daughter tried on clothes. I started crying I was so excited. It still humbles and amazes me. Awesome!

What is your favorite pastime, other than writing?
I enjoy reading, of course! But I also enjoy attending concerts – I love the energy and connecting with the musicians when they perform, live. I love hanging out with my daughter and watching movies, and shopping. I’m also really into The Blacklist right now, and I’m getting caught up on all the past episodes (binge watching on Netflix!)

How do you motivate yourself when inspiration takes a vacation?
I walk almost every day, and the physical exercise, as well as being outside and getting fresh air, helps me to work out plot problems. I also like to go to JoAnn Fabrics, a fabric, sewing and craft store. I enjoy seeing and feeling the fabrics, the colors, the textures, as well as all the cool craft supplies. It gets my creative juices flowing. I'll have to try that.

Any advice for new writers just starting out?
Read authors you admire. Write stories you would want to read. Read Techniques of the Selling Writer by Dwight Swain. Then read it another ten times, at least. It completely changed the way I think about writing, and how I plan and execute a story.

What genre or genres do you write?

I write romance mixed with suspense. My current release, A Mighty Good Man, is straight up romantic suspense. It’s a fast paced gritty tale.
'Hank' Jerry - This down and out writer and tough talking twentieth century broad is desperate to reclaim her personal and professional life.
Jack 'Gent' Darcy - This strange blend of gentleman and hood is fresh out of prison with a story to tell that could get them both killed.
Forced to return to the small town and the aunt she left behind, 'Hank' is doing her own time. But when Jack lands on Hank's doorstep, injured and on the run, he makes her a proposition she can't refuse: write his story about life inside one of the most powerful gangs in the country. It's simple - she'll get her career groove back, and he'll bury the gang, then disappear - his version of freedom.

Only problem is, they can't help falling for each other, and they've both got something to hide that could blow up in their faces. With time running out and gang enforcers closing in, will the trust they've forged survive the ultimate test?
I have this book on my Kindle waiting for me. It's got 25 reviews, 84% of them 5 star. I'm looking forward to it.
The series I’m working on right now is an urban fantasy with paranormal elements, and of course, romance. I remember reading an interview with Stephenie Myers, and, don’t quote me on this, but she talked about the best stories being those that crossed or blurred genres. I love that concept. Certainly, I’m not comparing myself to Ms. Myers, but I totally agree. My stories live in my imagination where there are no boundaries, and I do think that often, the best stories contain elements from all over the board. I agree 100%!!!

Tell us about your latest release.
The first book in the Crossing Realms series, The Keeper, is due to be released in late April 2016 from Soul Mate Publishing. To get a sneak peek, click here: http://eepurl.com/bqiDi5 What’s the story about? Here you go J

Nick Geary, jaded clan leader of human guardians, the Keepers, is doomed to love a human woman who’s forgotten him, time after time, for thirteen years: Libby Klink, a skittish accountant who’s as terrified of her recent and strange intuitions as she is of her mundane existence.

When Nick is ordered by the clan’s guiding force to seek Libby’s help in defending the clan against enemy Betrayers, romance sizzles as the pair forms an unlikely alliance in their desperate search to discover the key to the clan’s salvation—which Libby alone holds.

But a haunting secret could cost Nick everything, and in a race against time, both will be forced to choose between their hearts and duty. Can their love, and the clan survive, or will the very forces that drew them together ultimately destroy them?
I am beyond intrigued.

What’s your current WIP?
My current project is the second book in the Crossing Realms series, entitled The Watcher. I can’t really say too much about that right now, but I invite you to stay tuned!

And finally, where can we find you?
Thanks for being here, Rebecca. This being the gifting season, I am offering an eBook copy of  A Mighty Good Man to one lucky commenter. Leave Rebecca and me some love. Share what you want for Christmas. (World peace doesn't count. We all want that.) Happy Reading.

Pamela DuMond with a comedy/mystery and her How-to book -Staying Young

Posted by Susan B James on 3:00:00 AM with 7 comments

Pamela DuMond is here with two giveaways, a great cookie recipe and the latest entry in her hilarious Annie Graceland mystery series, Cupcakes, Bats, and Scare-dy Cats which is available on Amazon, iTunes, Kobo and Nook

Dear Sue:
Thanks for having me on your blog again. You and your crew are so fun and welcoming!

My new book Cupcakes, Bats, and Scare-dy Cats (An Annie Graceland Cozy Mystery, #6) published in November 2015.

Description:
Annie Graceland has a pinch of psychic ability. It turns out her cat, Theodore, does too!
Annie’s helping out her new neighbor by dog sitting. Her apartment complex has a “NO DOGS” rental policy, and the creepy manager, Anthony Spiggottini, accuses her of violating the lease and threatens to evict her. She’s out at a Halloween party with her handsome detective boyfriend, when Anthony busts into her place, and literally lets the dog and cat out. She’d gladly have killed him, but someone beats her to it.
Now Annie’s searching for her lost cat while dealing with Anthony’s ghost who refuses to accept that he’s dead. It’s a good thing she doesn’t know that Theodore, Mozart the dog, and Bloody Mary, (the spirit cat they conjured), are running loose on Venice streets, tracking down murder suspects.
Cupcakes,Bats, and Scare-dy Cats is a hilarious, pet-friendly cozy mystery, told through the eyes of the cats, the dog, and Annie.
I can't wait to read this one! I love the series.
You asked how Annie Graceland came to be.

I grew up on I Love Lucy re-runs and inhaled the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series. I’m a huge fan of actresses/comediennes Sandra Bullock, Debra Messing, and Meghan McCarthy. I wanted to create a funny mystery with a feisty, well-intentioned, fish-out-of-water heroine who possessed a pinch of psychic ability. It seemed like a recipe for entertaining stories that included trouble, laughs, nostalgia, and a few tears.
This is my 6th Annie Graceland Cozy Mystery and I plan on writing more.

I had a few problems writing Cupcakes, Bats, and Scare-dy Cats.
It wasn’t so easy writing the cats’ and the dog’s POVs. (Especially not the dog’s…) Too frequently I found myself staring at my two cats wondering what they’d say in these odd situations. I was grateful no one could ‘read my mind’ while I wrote this book, because I felt a little ridiculous.

As a ‘Thank You’ for having me on your blog, I’d like to offer 1 free e-copy of Scare-dy Cats, as well as 1 copy of my book Staying Young: Simple Techniques toLook and Feel Young.

Happy Holidays!
 Xo
 Pamela DuMond
