Meet Debut Author Tracey A Wood and her Midnight Angel

Posted by Susan B James on 1:00:00 AM with 7 comments

Tracey A, Wood lives in Staffordshire, UK. I met her on another blog where she spoke of using an unexpected medical setback as a steppingstone to follow her dream of being an author.  I was intrigued enough to buy Midnight Angel. I am reading it right now and I found it hard to put the book down at 3:00 AM last night. Can't wait for tonight. I wrote this a couple of weeks ago. You'll find my five-star review on Amazon and at the end of this post.
She and I are both published by Soul Mate Publishing. I contacted Tracey and asked her to be on my blog.
Tracey, please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a full time working mother and wife. I have been married for 31 years. I have two children, both boys. My eldest is disabled and lives at home. I have three cats who are also my babies. I am a great believer in giving everything your all. I don’t like to fail, at anything. I am not a sporty person, exercise doesn’t come easy.
I'm with you all the way on that one. I walk almost every day and I do yoga because I plan to live to one hundred and twenty and I want a workable body.
I love firsts, so tell me about the moment when a publisher told you they wanted to publish your book.
When I first got the email, offering me a contract. I thought it was a scam. No one gets their first book published. I was excited and didn’t tell everyone for weeks, until I knew it was real.

Other than your own, who are your favorite (heroes/heroines/writers) in your genre?
My current heroine is Charley Davidson from Darynda Jones and her grave series. Riley Jenson is another from the Guardian series by the author Keri Arthur. Also Rose Hathaway from Richelle Mead and the Vampire academy series. Clare Danvers from the Morganville series by Rachel Caine. There are others but I won’t list them all. I do love a strong female lead. Whether they are strong to start or find the inner strength to overcome what is thrown at them.
I've read Darynda Jones and agree with you. I'm not familiar the the others. I love new leads on what to read.
What is your favorite pastime, other than writing?
From the previous question, you can probably tell. It’s reading. I do love Urban Fantasy, Paranormal suspense and horror books. I myself am a bookaholic. And I hoard my favorites. Right now that's a problem because I am finally investing in new carpeting and that means I have to clear the five wall to ceiling books cases so they can move the bookcases. Not looking forward to that.

How do you motivate yourself when inspiration takes a vacation? To be fair, if it does, it’s not for long. I normally do something mundane, like ironing. It is the thing I hate most in the world, but when I do it I like to iron in front of the TV. It helps me to switch off and escape from my thoughts. Then when I go back I can normally get back into my story line. I don’t force it though. Just a couple of sentences and I can normally get into the flow. I am a slow writer anyway. I think it is how I see the scene in my head, as I am writing it. If I can’t see it, I can’t write it.

Tell us about Midnight Angel .(By the way, I adore the cover. I love Fiona Jayde's work.)
Midnight Angel – The Council Book One, is not just a paranormal suspense novel. It is also a love story with a twist. The heroine is Kat Shaw a divorced, estate agent who purchases a country cottage. She wants to do it up to sell. She starts to dream about a man by a stream and begins to imagine bumping into him in the real world. After being viciously attacked in a London park, she goes to stay at the cottage, to rest and get better. That’s when the fun starts!
Blurb
After almost losing her life in a vicious, bloody attack. Kat Shaw, a thirty-something divorcee, discovers that there are such things as monsters. And the predator who attacked her is not human. She starts to develop unusual skills that have murderous consequences. And she becomes an unwilling witness to multiple, brutal murders, seen through the eyes a killer. Thrown into a battle of Good vs. Evil, she falls in love with two men who are not what they seem. While her attacker stalks her and continues to murder the innocent, she has to find the inner strength to take on and fight the demons from hell—to protect her family and friends while also trying to save her own life.

Excerpt:
I had set my alarm clock so I could get up early in the morning, to head off to the cottage. Turning off the light and lying down, I snuggled under the covers.
I was just nodding off when I heard ringing. I hit the alarm clock, but the noise didn’t stop. Blinking, it dawned on me that it wasn’t the clock, it was the phone. I jumped up and answered it before the machine did.
“Kat?” the voice on the other end said.
“Yes?” I didn’t recognize the voice. Who would be calling at this time of night?
“It’s me, Sam.”
“Oh, hi,” I said, my voice flat.
What does he want?
“I was wondering, do you want to go out on Monday evening?”
“Oh, no, I don’t think so.” I tried to think of an excuse.
He went quiet, then asked, “Why not?”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
As the words left my mouth, I realized I shouldn’t have said them. I should have thought of something better. I didn’t know what else to say.
“Oh, so that’s it? You don’t want to see me again, do you?” I could hear the attitude in his voice.
“No. I think we should call it a day.” The phone went quiet.
“Sam?”
“That’s about right, you bitch!”
I froze, stunned.
“You lead me on and then dump me, you whore.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My God, where was the caring man from earlier? The one who had given me his jacket.
I slammed the phone down. As I did, I could hear him shouting and swearing at me. I couldn’t believe my ears.
Wow! I certainly had a narrow escape with him. I’m glad I didn’t tell him in person.
I was angry, annoyed that I hadn’t retaliated.
He was so nice. Who would have thought he could turn so nasty? Just wait until I get my hands on Jonathan. I’ll wring his bloody neck. What was he thinking, introducing me to a lunatic?
I made sure all the windows and doors were locked and finally went to bed.
I dreamt about the man on the rock. It was different this time.
The nameless vision of masculine beauty watched the water bubble and swirl as it flowed past him. He turned his head in my direction and smiled. There was something wrong with his eyes. They were not the beautiful blue eyes I loved so much. They were yellow! He glanced back at the stream and my gaze followed his. I looked back to where he stood and took a step forward. He wasn’t there! My heart sank.
Where had he gone?
I scanned the area but he was nowhere to be seen. I heard a noise above me and saw a large bird flying high in the sky. It swooped toward the stream and took off into the woods. Where did he go? He was there one minute and gone the next. I had just plucked the courage up to speak to him and he’d disappeared.
Damn it!

 What’s your current WIP?
I am working on the sequel to Midnight Angel. I am around three quarters through the first draft.

And finally, where can we find you?

Thank you for being here, Tracey, and thank you for a fast-paced intriguing, read.
Format: Kindle Edition
Midnight Angel is not the kind of book I normally read. I love books set in England, but as a rule, I don’t read any romance tinged with horror and graphic violence. But I couldn’t put Midnight Angel down. I had to know what happened.
Kat is a divorcee with a grown son. She’s bought herself a new cottage and is planning a great time redecorating with her best friends. When she’s assaulted by a monster everything changes. The assault leaves her with terrible wounds and new powers. Suddenly she can see things she’s never seen before, including a lover who first comes to her in dreams. Kat’s caught up in the battle between angels and demons and if she and her new friends don’t find the demons, it could mean the end of our world. Wonderful first book. Looking forward to reading the next one.
